FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
Depart from the pier by air-conditioned coach and transfer to Freshwater Connection Station. Here you will board the original Kuranda Scenic Railway and travel in Gold Class style for a spectacular journey comprising unsurpassed views of World Heritage Listed rainforest, steep ravines and picturesque waterfalls within the Barron Gorge National Park. Sip a cool Australian sparkling wine and enjoy appetizers as the train winds its way from Freshwater to Kuranda, the village in the rainforest, on this famous railway.

On arrival in Kuranda your guide will walk you to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. Walk through the main street of this unique rainforest village which features shops, cafes, galleries and typical Aussie pubs. In addition to walking through the breathtaking aviary at the Butterfly Sanctuary you will be given a very special tour with the opportunity to view the breeding laboratory which houses between 3,000 and 4,000 caterpillars.

After the tour, walk with guide back through Kuranda to the Kuranda Hotel, where a delicious buffet luncheon awaits you at Fanny O’Reilly’s, a traditional Aussie pub.

Next you will meet your Interpretive Rangers at the Skyrail Station. The Rangers will travel exclusively with your group to enhance your visit to both mid-stations on your descent of the Kuranda Range. Board the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for an unforgettable journey over 7.5 kilometres of Australia’s World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforest. You will travel in intimate six person gondola cabins which glide just metres above the forest canopy, providing spectacular and uninterrupted views of the rainforest, tropical Cairns, the Coral Sea and the Cairns Highlands.

During your Skyrail journey you will pause and alight at each of the two forest mid-stations for guided boardwalk tours with your Rangers, who will share with you their knowledge on these ancient tropical forests. You will be able to take in breathtaking views of Barron Gorge and Barron Falls, as well as visit the state-of-the-art Rainforest Interpretation Centre. The Centre, which Skyrail developed in conjunction with CSIRO, Australia’s premier scientific research organisation, houses touch screen computers and interactive audio-visual presentations providing an informative and fun learning experience to enhance your appreciation of the rainforest.

At the base of the Kuranda Range you will bid farewell to your Skyrail Rangers and transfer back to Cairns by coach.
