Duration: half day
Discover the World Heritage Rainforest outside Cairns at Rainforestation.
Highlights: Rainforestation
FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
Board your luxury coach for a short transfer to Rainforestation, a 100 acre (40 hectare) attraction set in the midst of World Heritage Rainforest. On arrival you climb aboard the amphibious Army Duck for an exciting tour of the magnificent rainforest and tropical fruit orchard featuring over 45 different tropical fruit trees. Your skilled Captain will explain the vast array of local plant life and wildlife.
Next you will take a tour of the Pamagirri Aboriginal Cultural Centre with your Pamagirri guide. Take the Dreamtime Walk, a 130-metre covered walkway styled on the Rainbow Serpent, the mythical creator of all the mountains, valleys and rivers, watch spear-throwing, learn to throw a boomerang, practice animal tracking or maybe have your face painted with traditional ochre. You will have plenty of time to view the extensive display of traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island dwellings, artefacts and art, as the Pamagirri guides talk about their traditional culture, and demonstrate the didgeridoo. Finally the Pamagirri Aboriginal Dancers perform traditional dances about hunting, food gathering and other aspects of their culture, accompanied by didgeridoo and clapsticks. You will view the dancers while seated in a comfortable amphitheatre with a backdrop of rainforest and a large protective canopy.
There is one more attraction to see at Rainforestation; the Koala & Wildlife Park. Your guides will take you on an educational tour of the park via a series of elevated boardwalks that allow close-up, uninterrupted views of the Australian animals and reptiles. Watch koalas in their large enclosure, see large saltwater crocodiles, dominated by five metre Jack, and their smaller freshwater cousins and wander through landscaped gardens amongst kangaroos and wallabies. You will also see the wombat and lace monitors and view some local snakes. Walk through the Koala Experience and, for an extra fee, perhaps have a digital photograph taken holding one of the cuddly koalas.
After learning much about Australia's cultural and natural gifts, reboard your coach for the transfer back to Cairns.
