Duration: half day
A chance to sample some of Tasmania's finest produce with oyster, cheese and wine tastings.
Highlights: Coal Valley Vineyard, Barilla Bay Oysters, Meadowbank Wines
FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
Meet your guide and driver today and set out for a delectable taste of Tasmania. Your first stop is Coal Valley Vineyard for a tasting of four different wines. Enjoy panoramic views over the vines to Barilla Bay while you taste from a range which may include Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Merlot. Coal Valley wines have won several gold medals at the Tasmanian Wines Show in recent years, and the stylized wine labels feature artwork by renowned Hobart painter Al Skaw.
Next you visit Barilla Bay Oysters, where expert guides provide a tour showcasing the growing process of farmed oysters. You will learn how oysters begin life as a tiny grain and grow to full maturity, as well as the importance of tides, weather and the environment. You will even learn how oysters are packaged to ensure their freshness when they are served up in restaurants around Australia and the world. At the conclusion of the tour taste two oysters and savor their freshness for yourself.
Leaving Barilla Bay Oysters you will travel through the beautiful Coal Valley to the historic convict village of Richmond, home of Australia's oldest Catholic church. You will stop here for a stroll around this pretty town before continuing on to Meadowbank Wines.
Set in 10 hectares of vines, Meadowbank Estate offers sweeping vineyard and water views. Here you are in for a double treat - enjoy a guided tasting of three different wines and learn about the features of cool climate wines, then try out three different cheeses from the famous King Island Dairy in the Bass Strait between Australia's mainland and Tasmania. Take some time to look around the facility, enjoy the views or inspect the current exhibition in the loft gallery. Depart Meadowbank, passing through the town of Cambridge and back over the Tasman Bridge into Hobart to conclude at your ship.
