Duration: 1 day
Full day excursion to Torres del Paine National Park.
Highlights: Torres del Paine National Park.
FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
This excursion showcases one of Patagonia’s gems – the Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia. Torres del Paine is a true spectacle with its huge granite towers - which Chilean Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda once described as “The last scream of the Andes before surrendering to the ocean” – and myriad flora and fauna. This area of sheer natural beauty and unique landscapes will surely make for an unforgettable travel experience.
The day begins with a short drive to Punta Arenas airport to board a specially-chartered aircraft. Take-off from Punta Arenas across the plains of Southern Patagonia towards the famous Torres del Paine National Park. The first part of the flight provides a perfect view of the pampas, and a glimpse of the Torres del Paine National Park. Established in 1959, the park is one of the most spectacular scenic regions in the world, ranks as one of the major attractions in South America, and was granted the status of Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978. The park centres around an alpine massif of three imposing granite towers (torres) reaching over 3,000 metres (10,000 feet), together with several lesser horns (cuernos) formed of resistant black shale, and a variety of glaciers, lakes, and wild rivers.
After landing in nearby Puerto Natales, continue into the park. The drive within the park offers an abundance of incredible scenic vistas. Across Nordenskjold Lake, one can enjoy a sensational view of the famous jagged towers that grace numerous publications. Lunch will be served at a restaurant in the National Park.
After lunch, continue to the Salto Grande Waterfall for a short hike and undisturbed view of the rugged beauty surrounding this scenic locale. Continue to the Laguna Amarga lagoon, known for its intense blue colour.
Return to Puerto Natales for the flight back to Punta Arenas. On arrival, transfer by motorcoach to the pier to rejoin the ship.
