Duration: half day
Spend the morning exercising, shopping and supping like a local
Highlights: Tai Chi Class, Home visit, local market and dim sum breakfast
FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
Depart for a morning sightseeing and immerse yourself in Hong Kong – not the shops, not the world famous restaurants – the Hong Kong as it relates to the 7 million residents who live, work, study and play here. This program serves to get you behind the façade that is so attractive and better understand what is truly interesting about this gateway city.
We begin with a morning Tai Chi lesson in one of the city’s lovely public parks or waterfront – join in with a regular group led by their “shifu” or master. Many people begin their day with a visit to a park where they engage in their favorite form of exercise and catch up with their friends and neighbors. Then it’s off for “yum cha” or morning tea at a local dim sum restaurant. Dim sum is a truly Hong Kong tradition that has been transformed into a world-wide culinary carts, steaming pots of tea, and a cacophony of sounds that mean only one thing – the day has begun and its time to catch up on the latest gossip.
The balance of the morning will take you further into Hong Kong life – pay a visit a local public housing estate to see how 58% of the population of Hong Kong live. Established in the 1950s these government-financed projects provide housing for the most needy at affordable rates in the world’s most expensive real estate market. Given that space is at a premium the average family of 4 in a typical housing estate lives in approximately 450 square feet – again, far removed from the high-rise image that Hong Kong presents to visitors. Then, continues to visit a local market where you will see the local people who buy the live fish, live crab fresh meats & vegetable in the local market.
