FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
DAY 1
Depart for Beijing by coach takes 2.5 to 3 hours drive. Upon arrival in Beijing, proceed to lunch at a renowned restaurant. Afterwards, you will be free to walk around Wangfujing Street and surrounding area. The new Wangfujing shopping district aims to achieve equal ranking with New York's Fifth Avenue, the Champs-Elysees of Paris and the Ginza in Tokyo. It consists of two stories, housing a wide variety of shops and boutiques. The street is embellished with squares, lawns, flower beds, fountains, ornamental columns, sculptures and benches. This pleasant environment has made shopping an exercise in fashionable leisure. Numerous sightseers are to be seen snapping scenes of the street, the most popular sites for souvenir photos being the street-side sculptures reflecting life in old Beijing, and the newly refurbished Catholic church, built in 1905. After a long walk, you will have a chance to get a foot massage in the local massage room. Foot massage improves the immune system and keeps the body's natural balance. Besides the health-care method, foot reflexology also can at least cure minor ailments, ease head and stomach discomforts. Foot reflexology in the West has gone through various phases of acceptance from the traditional medical community. While once regarded as superstition by Western medicine community, foot massage or reflexology is now being looked at in a more favorable way by both the medical community and the general public.
This evening, you will be transferred to the exclusive China Club for dinner. Situated on Xi Rong Xian Lane in a quiet residential area nearby the Forbidden City is a modest royal palace dating to the year 1641. Dinner will be served at these historic premises, now occupied by the China Club Beijing, an exclusive private club dedicated to fulfilling the dining and entertainment needs of Beijing’s commercial, social and political elite. Designated as a historical landmark, the architectural features and character of the original courtyard style palace remain intact, having been lovingly renovated by the China Club. In addition, the many pavilions inside have been carefully furnished with antique Chinese furniture chosen to suit each individual room. A selection of classical Chinese cuisine will be available for your enjoyment tonight.
Stay overnight at Peninsula Hotel or similar.
DAY 2
This morning, you will visit to various local markets. You can
choose any one of the local markets:
Silk Market:
Located to the east section of Changan Street, it is a six story building that provides everything with a restaurant on the sixth floor. Silk Market is open from 8:30am till 9:00 am from October to March. For the rest of the year, it is open until 11:00pm. The best time to go shopping here is during the week (not weekends) in the early mornings. You need some time to get use to the bargain if you are not familiar with the bargaining system.
Hongqiao Market:
It’s also named Pearl Market. The name of Pearl Market is a little bit misleading. This huge market actually provides everything ranging from small knives, copy watches, sports wear, bags, shoes and actual jewelry. It looks somehow messed up. On ground floor you can find some electronics, basic photo equipment, copy watches and other small stuff. On second floor they have shoes, women's and men's clothes, bags and some sporting goods.
Liulichang Antiques Street:
It’s the oldest street in Beijing. Located outside Hepingmen, this cultural street is known as "antique street" by many foreign residents in Beijing. Liulichang is 750m long with a long history from Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Now, there are lots of shops here. The area is a nice place to visit for those who love the Chinese culture. They sell such typical Chinese stuff such as ancient books, jade, gold, pottery wares, calligraphy, paintings, musical instruments, etc.
Panjiayuan Weekend Market:
For many tourists to Beijing, the Panjiayuan Market is a must-visit free market. It is open on the weekends. Panjiayuan is simply the best and biggest bazaar in Beijing. It has something for everybody from antiques to furniture and art as well as books and baubles.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. In the late afternoon, you will be transferred to Tianjin by expressway and return to the ship or Beijing Int’l airport
