Today you will enjoy a fantastic opportunity to see an example of the tropical dry forest native to much of Ecuador’s coastline. A visit to the Cerro Blanco Reserve is an excellent option for those wanting to “get active” during their stop in Guayaquil.

15 kilometres (9 miles) west of Guayaquil towards the town of Salinas, this reserve protects 6,000 hectares (15,000 acres) of tropical dry forest, home to a range of interesting wildlife, including howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars, and various endangered bird species. It is a truly a birdwatcher’s paradise, with 211 species recorded in the reserve, including the great green macaw. From January to May, the Reserve’s landscape is totally green, whereas in the dry season, from June to December, the leaves turn a reddish-brown colour and trees are in bloom.
