Duration: 1 day
Half day tour of Guayaquil and the Historical Park.
Highlights: Guayaquil.
FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
Today your tour of Guayaquil begins on the banks of the immense River Guayas, full of commercial shipping to and from the Pacific Ocean and home to the new Malecón 2000 promenade, noted for its excellent shops, bars, restaurants and modern architecture. Within the complex your guide will show you around some of the major attractions.
Afterwards, make your way towards the city center where you will visit the Parque Seminario and appreciate the city’s Cathedral. You will also have the chance to wander around the Square’s ornamental gardens, home to land iguanas measuring up to one metre in length.
You will also visit the excellent Anthropological Museum, home to an interesting collection of pre-Columbian items: this part of Ecuador is where the oldest relics of civilisation have been found anywhere in the Americas.
Finally, visit one of the most exciting of the recent projects in Guayaquil: the city’s Historical Park, a new 8.5-hectare (21-acre) complex located across the River Guayas to the west of the center in the Durán area of the city. On arrival in the park, your guide will lead you around the park’s three main “zones”: the “Endangered Wildlife Zone,” home to 45 such species originally native to the Ecuadorian Pacific Coast; the “Architectural Zone,” showcasing the history of 20th century building work in the city; and the “Traditions Zone,” exhibiting local rural customs, crafts and agriculture.
