DETAILS

FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
In recent years Lima has attracted a good deal of attention from travelers across the world for its superb infrastructure – including excellent hotels and restaurants and, notably, world-class museums.

Today, visit two of Lima’s most celebrated museums – the private Larco Herrera Museum and the world-famous Gold Museum.

Leave the port and drive south through the bustle of one of Latin America’s largest metropoli bound for the residential district of Pueblo Libre, home to the Larco Herrera Museum. This fascinating museum is located in a majestic mansion dating from the 18th century, built up over a Pre-Columbian pyramid from the 7th century and totally surrounded by gardens. It also holds the world’s largest private collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics (over 45,000 pieces). During a brief visit, you are offered a glimpse of 3,000 years of ancient history. The exhibits are excellent, explanations in the display cases are remarkable and your guide can enlighten you on the details of each piece. In addition to a “normal,” albeit private tour, the museum owners allow you into the storerooms of the museum to see pieces that are not regularly viewed by the public.

After this visit, head east for Lima’s Gold Museum. Probably Lima’s most famous museum, this remarkable collection is home to a fascinating array of armory as well as, of course, gold Inca, pre-Inca and European artifacts, including Francisco Pizarro’s sword!
