FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
Visit the Main Square, or “Plaza de Armas” of Trujillo: considered to be the largest in Peru, it is surrounded by magnificent colonial houses and the Cathedral. Explore several of the old colonial houses that have made Trujillo famous, including Mariscal de Orbegoso, where the only Trujillan President of Peru lived, the Casa de la Emancipacion, and the Iturregui Palace.
Afterwards, you will visit the greatest ruins of the Mochica culture. Built between 100 and 800 AD the huge adobe pyramids of the Sun and the Moon are thought to have combined the administrative and religious centers of the day. The Huaca del Sol, (Pyramid of the Sun), is estimated to contain 140,000,000 adobe bricks, and is the largest adobe pyramid in Peru. The Huaca de la Luna (Pyramid of the Moon) is a “live” archaeological site, with continuing excavations and discoveries.
Your tour ends with a brief visit to a local ranch famous for breeding the “Caballo de Paso” or “Stepping Horse,” a breed unique to Peru.
