DETAILS

FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
The adventure begins with a transfer to Port Elizabeth Airport for your charter flight to Addo Elephant Back Safaris. Your 20-minute flight will take you to the Addo Elephant Back Safaris landing strip, which is situated in the pristine valleys of the Zuurberg Mountains, bordering the recently proclaimed Greater Addo Elephant National Park.

This area is regarded as Africa’s most biologically diverse, supporting four of the seven biomes or eco-regions in Southern Africa. The area encompasses habitats ranging from semi-arid Karoo areas, across fynbos covered slopes, which merge with impenetrable thickets and montane forests and extend into rolling grasslands. During a walk through this unique area, informative guides will provide information, allowing you to be at one with nature.

On arrival, you will be met by an elephant minder and transferred to the reception area, where you split into two groups of six. The first group will enjoy a 30-minute ride with the elephants, while the other group enjoys refreshments and light snacks. With the return of the second group, enjoy a bush walk with the elephants through bush, ravines and forest. The walk is not strenuous and at an enjoyable pace, allowing you to observe the elephants’ habits in their natural surroundings.

This safari experience is about learning and becoming familiar with one of Africa's most stately, intelligent mammals - the African Elephant. It is an adventure of relaxed interaction with the elephants, enjoying the beauty of the area and of getting acquainted with these gentle giants in a meaningful way. Standing between them, surrounded by them, being touched by them, scented by them, being nudged and gently pushed at by them, feeling their curiosity and their trust, is to feel a oneness at an emotional and visceral level which is immensely elevating and yet, somehow, disquieting.

End the afternoon relaxing at the waterhole, enjoying refreshments and light snacks, while observing the elephants swim and make the most of the mud. With memories that will stay with you forever, return to the reception area in time for your flight back to Port Elizabeth Airport and transfer to the quayside.
