In Thailand, all roads lead to Bangkok. It is the spiritual, commercial, intellectual, artistic, and historical centre of the country. The modern façade of the city is imposing, but its dynamic past holds its own among the skyscrapers that line the river, reaching further and further toward the heavens. Bangkok is a city electric with excitement, always in motion and pressing the visitor to take it all in. We invite you to do just that - explore imperial Bangkok and discover why the Thais call it the "City of Angels."
From the pier in Laem Chabang, you will be transferred via air-conditioned coaches (approximately 2 hours) to Bangkok. Upon arrival into the city, begin with Wat Traimit (Temple of the Golden Buddha). This temple is known for its famous Golden Buddha, constructed during the Sukhothai period. This image of solid gold is three metres high and weighs five and a half tons.
Proceed to Pak Klong Talad (flower market) - a lively, colourful place presenting an excellent opportunity for seeing the rich variety of Thailand’s fresh produce - followed by a visit to one of the city’s most important temples – Wat Pho. Built by King Rama I nearly 200 years ago, the temple houses the gigantic Reclining Buddha. This unique image is 46 metres in length, 15 metres in height and is entirely covered in gold leaf. Wat Pho is also regarded as the first center of public education and is sometimes called "Thailand's First University."
Enjoy a traditional a la carte Thai lunch at a local restaurant before you journey to the grounds of the Royal Palace, where you enter a magical world. Founded by King Rama I in 1782, the palace is the epicentre of Thai history, tradition and culture, providing a window into the city's past as well as a basis for understanding its present. The spectacular Grand Palace complex is an eccentric blend of English Victorian, French, colonial and traditional Thai architecture. Commissioned by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), the first Thai monarch to visit Europe, the palace was designed by a British architect as a purely Victorian edifice but when the king's councilors strenuously objected to its western facade, a Thai roof was added. Also within this compound is the magnificent royal chapel, Wat Pra Keo, where the most sacred Buddha image in Thailand is enshrined - the Emerald Buddha, carved entirely from a single piece of jade.
From here, take a short stroll to Tachang Pier, where you board your exclusive rice barge for a cruise along the fabled Chao Phraya River. Following your exciting visit to this “City of Angels”, return to the port of Laem Chabang.
